Case Studies:
£27,500 damages for mother and daughter
In October 2024, our client, a young mother, was carrying her baby daughter into nursery school in north Belfast when she stepped onto a defective manhole cover that crumbled beneath her. The incident caused our client to fall, resulting in injuries to her hands and legs, while her young daughter also fell and sustained a head injury. Jack Dowling was instructed.
Medical evidence was obtained for both mother and child and presented to the owner of the manhole cover, BT PLC.
Following negotiations, we secured a settlement of £6,500 for the child.
An initial offer made in respect of the mother’s claim was rejected as inadequate. Proceedings were subsequently issued when an amicable settlement could not be reached. Shortly thereafter, we successfully negotiated a settlement of £21,000 for our client, who was delighted with the outcome.
